United States Department of Justice Alters Online Gambling View

2011 has been a tough year in terms of online gambling in the United States.  After major internet poker rooms were shut down in April, the online gambling traffic took a dive and, as a result, significant online casino groups were forced to close down.  Finally, as 2011 draws to an end, the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has provided a glimmer of hope for the online gambling industry in 2012.

The Department of Justice has made it known that the Wire Act of 1961 will no longer apply to online poker or casino gambling, but will continue to affect online sports betting.  This sudden change in the Wire Act has been credited to the Office of Legal Counsel reassessing the law.

Experts in the online gambling industry are hopeful that this new change made by the DoJ can be taken as a strong indication that it won’t be long before online poker, and possibly even online gambling will be legalized in the U.S.
